It’s time for the annual Winter term competition, and your task is to create an awesome game or animation in the space of one month!

You can use any game making tool, programming language or specially trained chimpanzees wearing diapers that you like.

You have until Friday the 13th of January to make the game or animation.

Here’s some game ideas to help you out:
- Gnomes jousting on cows
- Spy hacking into a frying pan to save the world
- Guy who has lasers instead of arms
- Giant enemy crab on the moon saving the world from Chris
- Samurai Pizza Cats: THE GAME
- Pie eating contest ☺

Don’t forget, we need the source code or animation files to your entry too.

If you can’t give your entry to us personally for some reason, just email it to competition@flash-club.com, compechicken@flash-club.com or iloveblubbernuggets@flash-club.com.

The results for the Flash Club Summer 2011 Competition are now in (finally)! Yes, the Easter and Summer competition somehow merged together because we couldn’t be bothered to set proper deadlines.

We had four very good entries this time round, all from year 7s. Jesse Rist from 7T submitted an entertaining car stunt animation created in Flash, with a mysteriously hilarious ending. Jay Uka, also from 7T, submitted a cool pong clone made in Flash, which made use of ActionScript 2 code, which is very impressive to see from someone his age.

Neil Sayers in 7G came in second place, with a simply hilarious website, made with HTML, CSS, and a pinch of Javascript. Looks like he’ll be well ahead of the game when doing HTML in ICT in year 8!

Jonathan Williams, also from 7G, came in first place. He created an animation in Flash that was technically impressive and also very entertaining! The animation is butter smooth and subtle blur effects add to the overall quality.

If you’re a fan of flying unicorns with lasers (we sure are!), then you’re gonna love it!

No winner can go without a suitable prize! Here’s a photo of Jon with his delicious Tesco chocolate cake (well, if it was Opposite Day, which it isn’t. We don’t really want to deal with the legalities of sticking photos of people on the internet)! Yes, that’s right, we gave away cake. How awesome is that? Doesn’t knowing that we give away cake at Flash Club make it even more epic win? Hope you enjoy the cake, Jonathan, you deserve it!

We can’t wait to see what people come up with for the next competition!

It’s time for the Flash Club Easter Competition!

Your task: Create something awesome, and give it to us (the Flash Club Team). We’ll judge it, and the winners (yes, winners) will receive a prize!

There are two tiers; Year 9 & Under and Everyone. This is to make sure everything is fair. There will be a prize for the winners in each tier (if someone wins in both, then one of the prizes will go to someone in second place).

The rules are as follows:

• You are allowed to use any program to make your entry. Game Maker, Flash, Visual Basic, HTML, whatever! It’s all about how good your creation is!
• The entry must be your own work and you must have proof of this (you can ask for help from The Flash Club Team)
• You are allowed to get help for your game from other sources. We recommend the Game Maker forum (http://gmc.yoyogames.com) for Game Maker and Kirupa (http://www.kirupa.com) for Flash. You must not directly copy from these sources; the help you get must be implemented into your entry properly and not just tacked on
• You are allowed to submit something you have made in the past, but you must update it in some way during the competition period

Your entry will be scored on the following things:

• Effort (how hard you worked to bring your idea to life)
• Innovation (how good, interesting, or unique your idea is)
• Implementation (how well you turn your idea into something usable)
• Graphics (how good the overall look is)
• Entertainment value/usefulness (how much we enjoy playing or watching your creation, or how useful it is)

The deadline is the first Friday of the Summer term.
